Eating Disorder Awareness WeekFebruary Events Across Canada for Anorexia, Bulimia and Binge Eating
Every February is Eating Disorder Awareness Week across Canada, hosted by the National Eating Disorders Association.
This year, February 25-March 3 marks Eating Disorder Awareness Week. The slogan is, “Be comfortable in your genes. Wear jeans that fit the REAL you.” There will be a Great Jeans Giveaway, where organizers from all over the countries will help to promote the cause. People are encouraged to donate old (or new) pairs of jeans that do not fit comfortably. Until we can live happily in the jeans we’re in, we will always be struggling to attain someone else’s version of perfection. The theme was chosen because of the proliferation of individuals who fight against their natural shape in order to attain something different. We’ve all heard of or have a pair of “skinny jeans” that sit at the back of the closet, collecting dust, because we are determined that one day we will fit into them. The aim of this week is to celebrate the “jeans” you have, not the ones you are desperately trying to fit into. Chronic dieting only brings feelings of failure and disappointment. Anorexia, Bulimia and Binge Eating are becoming more and more common in our society that values size over health. There are hundreds of coordinators who will be organizing these jean giveaways. If you are interested in becoming a coordinator or want to find out where the events are taking place, visit the National Eating Disorders Association’s website.
