Remuda Ranch Christian treatment center for eating disorders opens a new location near Bowling Green, Virginia, to treat anorexia & bulimia in girls and women.

Remuda Ranch, located in Wickenburg, Arizona, announced last week that it has opened a new Christian treatment center for eating disorders in Virginia. The eating disorder treatment facility provides eating disorder inpatient treatment for girls and women recovering from anorexia and bulimia.

Eating Disorder Treatment Facility

The new treatment center is located in a secluded area near Bowling Green, Virginia, and spans 500 acres. 48 beds will treat females in the intensive in-patient program they are known for.

120 professional and support staff have been hired to make the opening smooth. The center will cater to women, adolescents and children who have sought treatment.

"We're very excited to bring our state-of-the-art eating disorder treatment program and experts to the east coast," said Ward Keller, founder of Remuda Programs for Eating Disorders. "Since we first opened our doors in Arizona in 1990, we've treated more than 7,500 patients with eating disorders. We look forward to continuing to help those in need" (Remuda Ranch, 2007).

Christian Treatment Center

Wickenburg, Arizona, is home to the first Remuda Ranch, opened in 1990. Renowned for their inter-disciplinary approach to treatment, the care is based around a Psychiatric and a Primary Care Provider, Registered Dietitian, Masters Level Therapist, Psychologist and Registered Nurse.

Their effective equine therapy, art therapy and challenge course programs offer participants a chance to actively cooperate in their recovery process. It also allows more variety to treatment, giving each woman many ways to develop the tools she needs to function without an eating disorder.

Faith-Based Recovery

Unusual to most treatment centers, Remuda Ranch uses a Christian-based philosophy as a foundation for their programs. Faith is integrated into the daily activities and the staff uses it in their sessions with the girls.

Treatment is for every faith, though. Therapists cater the program to fit each individual's needs and if they're not Christian, alternative approaches are offered. No one is made to feel that they must believe a certain thing. Religion is only used to help the women feel more spiritual and help them along their recovery.

Eating Disorder Inpatient Treatment

Many families send their children or spouses to Remuda Ranch because other treatments have failed to help their loved ones. The costs are not fully covered by insurance, as most short term local hospital stays are, but the success rates posted by the facility are so high, families travel across states and even come from other countries for what they hope will be the best treatment.

According to Remuda, who has conducted scientifically valid outcome studies, 95% of former patients no longer have a diagnosable eating disorder one year after completing their program (Remuda Ranch). This is the highest rate in the United States and, possibly, in the world.

I'm sorry to hear about your son, Guest. Unfortunately, I'm not a professional in the eating disorder field, but someone who has recovered. Has your son ever sought help before? There are some great on-line communities where he can find resources: www.something-fishy.org or www.edreferral.com. Shelley's Angels Society in Canada also has bursaries for treatment, so you might consider applying for one of those: www.shelleysangels.org. I truly hope that helps.

There is a residential treatment centre in Canada for Eating Disorders located on Bowen Island called
Beau Cote. They treat women 18 years and up.
If the young man needs treatment you should contact your local health minister and ask for provincial support in funding treatment. Do also go to Shelley's Angels for help with covering treatment costs. The treatment you are seeking for your son should be considered when choosing the level of care he needs, and is need through the phases of treatment. Hospital, inpatient, residential, semi-residential, out-patient, therapy sessions.

my daughter is at Bible college and is 17 years of age. she is fading away into skin and bones. Everyone comments on it. She denies a problem, but has not eaten properly in about 1 year. She has alot of the symptoms of an eating disorder but I do not know where to get Christian help. We are in Ontario.

hello, my name is ashley, I was admitted to remuda ranch in wickenburg, az in February 2005. Then i was in a great struggle with anorexia and i was in complete denial that i even had it. i just wanted anyone to know that if you or your family member is struggling with an eating disorder that it is not only a personal struggle, but it also affects your whole family. I have been recovering for 3 years and i could not have done it without the lord's strength, my family, and the help of Remuda Ranch. Treatment is a stepping stone of a new life, its how you deal with an eating disorder after you have the tools from treatment. i have learned so much about myself and yes its still a struggle for me, but it gets easier every passing year, month, day and minute. Thank you.

I just received this news from Remuda Ranch about their above location and thought I would pass it along:

Just as in Arizona, this program offers a residential level of care for eating disordered women and adolescent girls. Patients can admit from outpatient therapy if their symptoms are not severe enough to warrant our inpatient program. Or, because returning directly home after intensive treatment often proves too challenging, patients may spend time at Remuda Life. This transitional care often prevents relapse.
In fact, many patients leave intensive care and return home, only to discover the stress is simply too much for them or their families. If this is the case for a patient of yours, our Remuda Life program may be exactly what she needs to get back on track. We can also help those struggling with Obesity, Compulsive Overeating and Binge-Eating Disorder through our Emotional Eating Program.
If you know someone who could benefit from care at either one of our Remuda Life programs, please refer them to our Admissions Department at 1-800-445-1900.
